Taunton Fly Fishing Club

Taunton Fly Fishing Club

Overview

Taunton Fly Fishing Club provides small water fishing in Somerset and Devon for wild brown trout, sea trout and grayling.

The club is committed to good stewardship of the waters it fishes and thus seeks to work with other interested parties to improve the riparian environment.

The club provides opportunities for members to socialise and share expertise with fellow members and will encourage all members to actively engage in club activities.

Aims

We believe wild trout are an important indicator of the health of our rivers and we want to make sure that trout and all they represent are there for future generations.

Our members are committed to:

  • The principle of ‘Do No Harm’
  • Working to protect & improve the water quality of over 40km of our rivers.
  • Conserving and improving habitats for wild trout, sea trout & grayling
  • Monitoring and recording river flies.
  • Working in partnership with landowners, the Environment Agency, Natural England
  • Wild Trout Trust, Salmon & Trout Conservation UK, The Angling Trust and the Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group.
  • Sustainable fishing by ‘catch & release’ and barbless hooks.
  • Supporting the re-stocking of Sea Trout by supporting Axe Vale Rivers Association.

Water

Our home waters include 8 beats on the River Tone between Taunton and Huish Champflower in Somerset, 5 beats on the River Axe between Forde Abbey and Whitford, Devon, 1 stretch of the River Yarty, downstream of Beckford Bridge, Devon and 3 beats on the River Isle near Donyatt, Ilminster, Somerset.

Due to the plentiful trout and grayling populations we do not stock our rivers.

Membership

Our club membership is limited and there is a waiting list for membership. Enquiries should be addressed to the Secretary at info@tauntonflyfishing.co.uk
